On 5th September, in the Hall of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Jagiellonian University, Year 7-8 students attended the conference on “Enigma”. It was the way they, along with other students of Krakow schools, paid tribute to those who devoted their lives to saving their homeland during World War II. The conference organised by the Board of the National Pantheon Foundation showed the contribution of three Polish mathematicians: Marian Rejewski, Henryk Zygalski, Jerzy Różycki in defeating the Axis Powers with the strength of their minds. Students listened to the lectures on the history of Enigma and the work of Polish cryptologists on breaking this code. The guest of honour at the conference was Dermot Turing, Alan Turing’s nephew and the author of the book “XYZ. The Real Story of How Enigma Was Broken” which conference participants received with the author’s autograph.
